Philippine Airlines: 30% Less Mabuhay Miles on Redemptions

Philippine Airlines is running the Great Mabuhay Miles Getaway 2018. This is a great opportunity for all Mabuhay Miles members to redeem less miles for award flights. But don’t delay, because this promotion runs for just a short period this week!

This redemption promotion will only be active from July 23rd to July 27th, around midnight, Philippine Time (PST/GMT+8).

Philippine Airlines and Mabuhay Miles

Philippine Airlines is the flag carrier of The Philippines. It is based in Manila with hubs in Cebu, Clark and Davao.

As we’ve shared before, Philippine Airlines runs its own Mabuhay Miles loyalty program. It is an independent (non-alliance) airline, but keeps demographically strategic partnerships in Japan and the Middle East. Its main far-off destinations are Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East, United Kingdom and the United States.

Great Mabuhay Miles Getaway 2018

Mabuhay Miles’ terms for this awards redemption offer is pretty straightforward:

  • All international flights, except South Korea routes, are eligible, subject to availability of seats.
  • Promo runs from July 23rd 12:01 a.m. to July 27th 11:59 p.m.
  • Booking must be done through their call center, any PAL ticketing office or, for elite members, the Mabuhay Miles Service Center.
  • Travel period should be anytime between September 1st to December 10th, 2018. All itineraries must end by December 10th.
  • Awards are available for Economy, Premium Economy and Business classes, for 30% miles off published rates.

Given the conditions of this promotion, it is a rather open opportunity for all Mabuhay Miles members. Because awards are largely subject to seat availability, it is important to inquire and book as early as possible. So head to a nearby PAL office, or call their exclusive call center hotline at +63-2-855-7777.

Note that you cannot avail this promotion through online redemptions introduced earlier this year. We surely hope that their award search engine would support future promotions.

Cost Comparisons

How many miles does a typical Philippines Airlines award flight require, you ask? Mabuhay Miles has a grouped distance-based redemption chart. Due to The Philippines’ geography the airline has a distance advantage to different Pacific destinations.

Standard one-way redemption rates for select routes include:

  • Hong Kong, Taipei
    • Economy: 9,500
    • Premium Economy: 11,500
    • Business: 17,500
  • Singapore, Fukuoka, Shanghai
    • Economy: 12,000
    • Premium Economy: 14,500
    • Business: 22,000
  • Tokyo, Guam, Bangkok (also Seoul, excluded from the current promotion)
    • Economy: 14,500
    • Premium Economy: 17,500
    • Business: 26,500
  • Melbourne, Sydney
    • Economy: 22,000
    • Premium Economy: 26,500
    • Business: 40,000
  • Auckland, Honolulu, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh
    • Economy: 27,000
    • Premium Economy: 32,500
    • Business: 49,000
  • London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver
    • Economy: 32,000
    • Business: 58,000
  • New York, Toronto
    • Economy: 37,000
    • Business: 67,000

Factor in the current promotion, and you can save anywhere between 2,850 (Economy, for the shortest route) to 20,100 miles (Business, for the longest). A New York Business award, for example, will not only give you major savings but also a better sleep with their new lie-flat product:

And that’s a major win in our book.

Final Word

Philippine Airlines and Mabuhay Miles are providing a great opportunity to use those points earned in The Great Mabuhay Miles Getaway 2018. Despite running only for a very limited time, the promotion itself is applicable to almost all their international destinations. That said, there would be competition from other Mabuhay Miles members for seat availability.

If you’ve already been eyeing some award bookings and rich on Mabuhay Miles, now is definitely the time to use them. With the ongoing upgrades to the Philippine Airlines fleet, you might be in for a treat with an upgraded flight experience, too.
