Mileage Plan Promotion Holidays 2018

The year-end is almost upon us, and Alaska Mileage Plan is at it again with a rather appealing offer for miles purchases. During this holiday season, members can buy up to 50% extra miles!

The deal runs until December 21st (PST), but how do you take advantage of this deal?

The Mileage Plan Promotion: a 50% Bonus

For starters, you can only get this offer once your account is at least 10 days old. So if you’re still on the fence about the deal or program itself, create an account for now and decide on the purchase later.

Once you become eligible for the promotion, you should login to your account page to see your personal offer. If you also become eligible for the maximum, you would see this:

Mileage Plan Promotion

You have to buy at least 10,000 miles to get the smallest bonus, up to a purchase of 60,000 for a maximum of 30,000 extra miles. This deal comes to a cost of around 1.97 cents per mile which we think is good value.

Remember that you can only buy at most 60,000 base miles per transaction, but you can do so multiple times. So you can buy hundreds of thousands of miles, if you need or want to.

What could you do with those miles? Take a good look at their awards chart and you may — subject to seat availability — book tickets like:

  • Asia to Continental USA on Cathay Pacific
    • First: 70,000
    • Business: 50,000
  • Round-trip Southeast Asia to Continental USA on Korean Air
    • Business: 120,000
  • Southeast Asia to Continental USA on Japan Airlines
    • First: 75,000
    • Business: 65,000
  • Within Asia on Cathay Pacific
    • Business: 22,500
  • Within Asia on Japan Airlines
    • Business: 25,000

Note that on Alaska Airlines partners, there are rarely any segments within Asia with First Class and therefore you’d usually be flying Business on those routes. And at the moment, you still cannot redeem miles on Singapore Airlines flights.

Final Word

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is an amazing frequent flyer points program, as it offers attractive miles purchase offers and value partner redemptions. It truly helps that they are able to offer deals frequently for members to take advantage of and boost their miles accounts.

The holidays are almost upon us, and if you still haven’t finalized your travel plans this deal is a viable option to get premium cabin space on flights. Have you already purchased some miles or redeemed award flights? Let us hear your story below!
