Cyber Week 2018 LifeMiles Promotion

It’s Thanksgiving over at the United States, and that means sales over the Internet. This year’s Cyber Week is no different, and Avianca is taking advantage of this by holding a new LifeMiles promotion.

The deal has only just started, and everyone has a week until November 26th (CST/GMT-6). What’s the Cyber Week deal this year?

LifeMiles Promotion: 140% Extra Miles

By logging in to your account page, you can navigate the menu to buy miles and see the details of the current promotion:

LifeMiles Purchase Promotion

In line with last year’s promotion, you can choose to buy as little as 1,000 LifeMiles! You will then get another 1,400 LifeMiles bonus for a minimum $33 plus tax, for a total of 2,400 miles.

You can buy a maximum of 200,000 LifeMiles in a year, per account. If you’ve bought any miles earlier this year you can only purchase the remaining amount, but the maximum excludes any LifeMiles bonus purchased. Of course, you can always create another account to buy more.

If you take full advantage of the current promotion, you can get a total 480,000 LifeMiles for US$6,600 + tax. And that translates to a good value purchase of just 1.375 cents per mile.

With these miles, you can book flights on Star Alliance (with this awards chart). Grab seats — subject to seat availability — such as:

  • Singapore (South Asia) to San Francisco (North America)
    • First: 99,000
    • Business: 78,000
  • Kuala Lumpur (South Asia) to Hawaii
    • First: 75,000
    • Business: 51,000
  • Manila (North Asia) to Tokyo or Seoul (North Asia)
    • First: 30,000
    • Business: 22,500
  • Singapore (South Asia) to Australia (Other)
    • First: 75,000
    • Business: 50,000
  • Bangkok (South Asia) to Frankfurt (Europe)
    • First: 102,000
    • Business:  78,000

A one-way flight from Manila on Business to Seoul on Asiana or to Tokyo on ANA would then cost you just US$309 (22,500 x $0.01375). And for that, you get to fly on this:

Asiana A350 Business Class

Select Discounted Star Alliance Awards

But the promotion doesn’t stop there. You can redeem Star Alliance award flights for fewer LifeMiles on some routes until December 12th (again, CST/GMT-6).

The entire list of discounted routes and classes is encouraging, with flights mostly around Asia-Pacific. Here we highlight a few interesting routes:

If you’ve noticed, not all of these routes are offering special rates (if any) both ways so you’d have to check for yourself and see if it’s worth it.

Just note that, as with any award redemption, there will be some additional booking fee. There will also be extra charges for ticket cancellation or itinerary changes.

Final Word

This Avianca LifeMiles promotion is interesting; you can get the bonus for as little as a mere 1000 miles. Now is a good time to (re)stock up on some LifeMiles for a trip planned in the near future. (Remember, your LifeMiles are valid for 12 months from the last earning activity.)

LifeMiles is also offering discounted Star Alliance redemptions this year, albeit on a bit smaller scale than the last. As always, it’s best to see if there are available seats on the awards search engine and compare the cost with buying tickets outright.

If you have been planning a vacation with a discounted award rate above, now would be a very good time to buy in and book flights.
